H.O.P.E. (Hope Oriented Parents Education for Families in Hong Kong)

Partnering organization: Hong Kong Christian Service

As a child enters adolescence, increasing exposure to the outside world requires broader coping skills and maintenance of close ties to parents. We believe that hope-oriented communication between parents and their children through storytelling will improve a child’s resilience, increase family members’ happiness, enhance parent-child bonds and harmonious family relationships. This study has developed a hope story book with at least 28 stories tailor-made to enhance hope related thinking style. Parents of children aged between 8 to 10 years receive a course to use the hope story book and to empower their story telling techniques. After the course, the parents are instructed to tell hope stories to their children on a regular basis for at least one month.
